Aiming to cement bilateral ties, a new train and bus service has been launched between India and Bangladesh. The inauguration of the train was done jointly by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The inauguration ceremony took place via video conferencing. It may be recalled that Hasina is here in India on an official visit. The new train and bus service will boost cultural and business ties between the two countries. A tweet by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) read, “Building the ties that bind, one step at a time. The two leaders inaugurate two rails and a road connectivity project via video conf.”
Named Maitree Express, the train will run from Khulna (Bangladesh) to Kolkata via Petropole-Benapole (Bangladesh). Praising Hasina, PM Modi said that her visit is invaluable and it reestablishes the faith in India-Bangladesh friendship. The two leaders led delegation level talks and put the seal of approval on 22 agreements.
