Breda (Netherlands), 18 July 2015: Commencing the Volvo Invitational U-21 (Men) Tournament 2015 on a winning note, India claimed its first victory against Germany by defeating them 3-0 in their inaugural match of the tournament today.
The tournament witnessed an exciting face off between India and Germany where both the teams made crucial attempts to penetrate the defence of the other.
India began the game on a good note by scoring its first goal in the 29th minute which came from the stick of Armaan Qureshi through a field effort. Having started the proceedings, the Indian men maintained a good pace in the entire first half and did not allow the German men to open their score card and the scores stood 1-0 in favour of India at half time.
The game continued to be in support of India as the proceedings in the second half were initiated by Captain Harjeet Singh who smartly entered the opponent’s D and smashed an excellent field goal in the 46th minute to double the lead to 2-0. On the other hand, Germany constantly tried to create space in the opponent’s D but all its efforts went in vain when India’s Harmanpreet Singh efficiently converted a penalty corner, thereby adding the third goal to the Indian team’s account in the 52nd minute. Unsuccessful in scoring any goal, Germany lost to India 0-3.
The Volvo Invitational U-21 Tournament 2015 will be held at Breda, The Netherlands from 18-26 July 2015. India will now clash against New Zealand on 19th July 2015 at 2045 IST.
