India beats Scotland 4-1 in Hockey World League Semi-Final opener

While majority of the nation has been rejoicing on the victory of India over Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy, Indian Men’s Hockey Team has been silently making the killing. In the World Hockey League Semi Finals opener, India faced Scotland.

Scottish Captain Steve gave a lead to his team in the seventh minute to give India some tremendous pressure in the beginning. However Indian team came back and scored 4 goals without conceding any further goal. Ramandeep scored couple of goals – 31st and 34th minute to give India the crucial lead.

Akashdeep added another goal to the score before it was completed by Harmanpreet who converted penalty corner into a goal.

The fist quarter was dominated by Scotland who gave run for money to India with their attack by holding the possession of the ball among themselves giving a tough time for Indian players. Scottish goalkeeper Thomas Alexander saved few goal attempts by the Indian team giving a nightmarish feeling.

India’s marquee midfielder Sardar Singh was in the center of action with some great passes but most of the opportunities were nullified by Alexander who padded away Akashdeep Singh’s shot on goal in the 25th minute to end the second quarter with advantage to Scotland.

India which is in Pool B will next play against Canada which is scheduled on June 17th.
