As expected, India scored a mammoth 622 for 9 before it declared its first innings on Day 2 and struck 2 wickets before the day is closed. After Rahana got out for 132, Ashwin scored 57 before he was bowled by Herath. Saha scored an impressive 67 before he too was dismissed by Herath. Pandya was out earlier for 20 when the scores were at 496-7. However a quick fire 70 by Jadeja who stood unbeaten until the end and Shami who scored 19 off just 8 deliveries with 2 sixers made India reach 600+ score yet again.
When Srilanka came to bat, they had a shocker since they lost their fist wicket of Tharanga even before the score could start. The first scalp was picked by Ashwin. He struck yet again and this time, he claimed the wicket of Karuaratne when the score was 33. Srilanka was struggling at 50-2 when Day 2 ended with Mendis and Chandimal on the crease.
On the other match, England struggled to get to 260 on Day 1 against South Africa. While Ben Stokes scored a top score of 58, Captain Joe Root scored 52. Rabada and Olivier both took 2 wickets each. None of the other English players scored well and their fall started right from the beginning losing Jennings when the score was just 35.
The team did seem to recover after that but two consecutive wickets when the score reached 92 including that of Cook and Westley had put South Africa yet again on top. However Malan, Root and Stokes did score a decent score which forged 52,43 and 65 runs partnership with their respective wickets. Egland has a long way to go on Day 2 whereas South Africa will try with all their might to get them out within 300.
