Continuing from the score of 399 on Day 1, India was all out for 600. We saw Day 1 creating lot of records for India and it was the same on Day 2 as well. Hardik Pandya scored his 50 in just 49 deliveries which was the 2nd fastest after Yuvraj Singh’s 42 ball knock in a test debut.
It was also 6th instance for India in scoring 600 runs and above and that too in the past 1 year and it was the first time a visiting team has score so many runs in the first test match against Srilanka. India has also never lost any test match where their first innings score was 600.
Angelo Matthews is yet to be out for a duck. His last duck came in 2012 against Pakistan in the same venue. He has played 79 innings after that and this was his 80th.Earlier Pujara got out on Day 2 by adding just 9 runs to his previous day score. He scored 153. Rahane got out when he was in 57 and a quick fire from R Ashwin came handy for team India before he got out for 47. Shami scored 30 whereas Pandya got out at 50. It was a brilliant show for Team India overall. For Srilanka, Pradeep took 6 wickets by giving away 132 runs.Kumara took 3 for 131 runs.
Srilanka began to bat and it faced a blow in the initial stage with Karunaratne getting out for 2 runs. Gunathilaga joined with Tharanga and when the score reached 68, he got out. He scored 16. Kusal Mendis got out for a duck and returned back to the pavilion. Angelo Matthews then joined Tharanga who took the score to 125 when Thranga got out for 64. Dickewella got out for 8. When the day ended, Srilanka ws struggling to avoid the follow on. The score card was 154-5. Shami took 2 wickets. Yadav and Ashwin took 1 wickets each. Srilanka still needs 247 to avoid follow-on.
