India has sought Indonesia’s help in cementing the India’s ties with the ASEAN bloc. Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday met with Indonesia’s Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto.
Kiren Rijiju also said India recognised Indonesia’s role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and appreciate its strong commitment to ASEAN’s peace and security.
He also pointed out the cultural and democratic similarities of both the nations. He claimed that India is ready to partner with the largest nation in southeast Asia to cement ties with the ASEAN bloc.
Indonesian leader Wiranto is visiting Delhi with an Indonesian delegation to discuss various business and other issues.
An official statement released by the joint team indicated that both leaders discussed the ways to tackle fundamentalism, extremism and radicalisation.
Rijiju also praised Indonesian efforts to effectively tackle the threat of the Islamic State on its soil.
