India wins second test against Australia; Oppo Mobiles chosen sponsor of Indian cricket team

In a surprising turn of events, as cricket is widely known for, India has managed to claim a win against Australia in the second test, even when they were facing certain defeat at the start of the day. The Australians had their task cut out, as they started the day with the target of 188, which seemed quite achievable. However, Indian bowlers gave quite a surprise to the Australian side, especially Ravichandran Ashwin who took 6 wickets for 41. The maverick of Indian bowlers put the Australian side on the defensive mode and they were bowled out for just 112 in their second innings. This helped India to score a decisive 75 run victory over Australia in the second test. The four-match series is now level at 1-1.

With his superb performance, Ravichandran Ashwin has become the fastest ever to reach 25 five-wicket hauls in test cricket. Overall, he is the 10th such bowler to achieve this record. He has now also become the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 test wickets in India, which he has done in just 30 matches. Ashwin has also surpassed Bishan Singh Bedi’s 266 wickets record. Ashwin now has 269 wickets to his credit.

Meanwhile, there was some heated exchange during the test between Virat Kohli and Australian skipper Steve Smith. Kohli was miffed with Steve for taking help from the dressing room before going for the Decision Review System (DRS). “I have seen it twice while batting. I have seen their players looking upstairs (dressing room). I told the umpires, this had to stop. I don’t want to mention the word but it falls in that bracket. I would never do something like that on the cricket field,” said Virat Kohli.

In another development, Team India has got a new sponsor in Oppo Mobiles, effectively replacing the earlier sponsor STAR India. The company emerged as the highest bidder at Rs 1,079 crore for a five-year deal. Oppo’s logo will start appearing on the jerseys and training gear of team India from April 1. It will cover senior, junior and women’s teams.
