India has won the 2nd test series against Srilanka by bundling the team on Day 4 marking an innings victory. India is now shy of 1 test series victory which will see them equalling the Australian record of 9 consecutive test series victories. There were few records that were set in this series. One of them was two players scoring 50+ runs and securing 5 wickets each which is the third such instance ever happened and has happened first time for India.
The players who got this record were Jadeja and Ashwin, Interestingly Jadeja has won the Man of the Match Award but was given a test match suspension for throwing the ball angrily over a Srilankan player. After having scored 622-9 in the firs innings, India bundled out Srilanka for a paltry 183 runs. However the host nation had a better start in the second innings after they were forced to play the follow-on. Though Tharanga was out cheaply for 2 runs, the third wicket partnership between Karunaratne nd Mendis could not be separated until the score reached 198.
Mendis got out for 110 runs. At the end of Day 3, Srilanka were 238-2. However wickets started falling on Day 4. When score reached 241, Srilanka by then had lost 2 more wickets and there was another worthy partnership after that between Karunaratne and Matthews where they steered Srilanka to go past 300. When the score reached 310, Karunaratne got out. After this, the wickets started falling in regular intervals. The last five wickets fell for just 76 runs making India win the match by an innings and 53 runs and also the test series as well.
