Incheon (Republic of Korea), 30 September 2014: After the unfortunate defeat in the hard-fought semi-final match against Republic of Korea, Indian Women Hockey team is now focused to finish their 17th Asian Games 2014 campaign by clinching Bronze medal. India is all-set to take on Japan on 1 October 2014 for the third/fourth place play-off to be played at Soenhak Hockey stadium.
As India lost Bronze to Japan in the 2010 Asian Games, Guanzhou, Indian eves will play to take revenge for the ill-fated defeat. In that neck-to-neck battle, India challenged the Japanese through-out the match with their quick attacking moves and strong defence line up. The match went to the extra-time and here also the Indian eves kept the Japanese busy with their surprise attacks. However, India lost the match by 0-1 after conceding a goal and finished 4th in the 2010 Asian Games.
Learning from the previous matches, Indian eves will be emphasising more on converting chances into goals in the 2nd half of the match. India has created opportunities through-out the matches but the second half seems more challenging for converting opportunities into goals. With the superb performance against Thailand and Malaysia, Indian eves would like to repeat their goal-scoring opportunities against Japan and fight for the Bronze medal.
Speaking ahead of the match, Indian Women Hockey team’s Chief Coach Neil Hawgood said, “In the previous match, we created enough chances in the last half of the game but unfortunately, we failed to materialize those chances. Now, we have shifted our focus on Japan and the Bronze Medal. If we start well and pull-out our best in the last two quarters as well as we did against Malaysia, we will have a very good chance of beating Japan for the first time in two years.”
The Bronze medal match between India and Japan will be telecasted live on Ten Sports and Ten HD at 1300hrs IST on 1 October 2014.
