After eliminating many terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir, the Indian government is now working to take action against terrorist leaders who sit in Pakistan and control terrorists operating in the Kashmir Valley. They are also involved in recruiting new terrorists and sending them across the border into Indian territory. One such terrorist leader is Masood Azhar who belongs to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed. Masood was the mastermind of the Pathankot terror attack that took place on January 2, 2016. Security agencies have also identified Masood’s brother Rauf and five other individuals for the Pathankot attack. It may be recalled that seven soldiers were killed in the Pathankot terror attack. All the terrorists involved in the attack were eventually neutralized by the armed forces.
India is hopeful that the United Nations (UN) would agree to tag Masood Azhar as a terrorist and also take action against his organization Jaish-e-Mohammed. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin said that the matter is currently being discussed by a UN committee. He said that the matter is currently sub-judice and discussing it in detail would not be possible. However, he said that India will do all it can to get Masood tagged as a terrorist. He said that India will not sit idle until Masood is tagged as terrorist. China has been consistently blocking India’s attempt to get Masood tagged as a terrorist. When Masood is tagged as terrorist by UN, he will be banned from travelling and his assets will be frozen.
