Feroze Varun Gandhi

The voice of the needy


Feroze Varun Gandhi is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament (MP – Lok Sabha) from Sultanpur constituency in the State of Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to the Nehru-Gandhi family, but his political affiliations are with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Varun is an integral part of the political equations in the State of Uttar Pradesh and at the national level as well. He has worked at the grassroots level during various campaigns of his party. His charismatic nature has helped him build a good rapport with the masses. Varun is a leader who cares for the masses and has been actively involved in various endeavors such as garnering physical aid for the handicapped, financial assistance for widows and under-privileged, creating jobs for unemployed youth, reenergizing the co-operative sector and helping farmers affected by climate change.

Early Life and Education

Varun Gandhi was born in New Delhi on March 13, 1980 to Sanjay Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi. He is the grandson of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi and the great-grandson of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Varun completed his B.Sc. (Hons) Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), London University, U.K. He married Yamini Gandhi on March 06, 2011.

Early Political Career

Varun was introduced to the political mainstream in 1999 when he joined his mother Maneka during election campaigning for Pilibhit constituency. His fledging political career took stronger roots when Maneka and Varun officially joined BJP in 2004.

Varun has worked hard for the betterment of people in Uttar Pradesh. In 2015, during his term as MP, Lok Sabha, he decided that he will donate his entire salary to help farmers affected by the agrarian crisis. He has personally visited various areas in the State and provided financial assistance to farmers who needed it the most. Through this noble act, he has helped draw the nation’s attention to the plight of farmers. He has urged the government to take appropriate measures to alleviate the pain and suffering of farmers.

Varun Gandhi is a seasoned writer and his articles are regularly published in various newspapers such as The Times of India, The Hindustan Times, The Economic Times, The Indian Express, and The Hindu as well as over 15 regional papers including Malayalam Manorama, Lokmat, Hindustan, Rajasthan Patrika and Punjab Kesari. His other interests include poetry, modern Indian art, philosophy, economic theory, world cinema and jazz. In sports, he likes chess, tennis and squash.
