In a welcome development, the Indian Railways will now allow reserved train tickets to be transferred to another person. However, the facility comes with certain conditions. Also, the facility will only be available at certain stations and the transfer will be done by the Chief Reservation Supervisor of a particular station. One of the conditions is that the request for transfer will have to be made 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. Speaking about the new scheme, the railways said, “Where the passenger is a government servant, proceeding on duty and appropriate authority, makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of trains.”
The other important condition is that the reserved ticket can only be transferred to another family member, which may include father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband and wife. However, students have been exempted from the family rule. Students can transfer their reserved ticket to another student of the same institute, provided that the head of the institution provides a written request 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. Members of a marriage party will also be allowed to transfer their ticket to another member, provided that the request is made by the deemed head of such a marriage party, 48 hours prior to the train’s scheduled departure. The service is also available to cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
