Indian “Spell Bee” champ mocked by CNN Anchor

Ananya Vinay, the Winner of Spell Bee Champ 2017 was asked to spell the famed word “covfefe” used by US President Donald Trump, few days ago by the CNN Anchor Alisyn Camerota was ridiculed in the social media since she assumed that the 12 year old is “used to using” Sanskrit because of her heritage.

After spelling the word ‘marocain’ correctly, Ananya did not break the jinx of Indian-American winning the coveted championship which saw the Indian-Amercians winning since 2005. She was interviewed by CNN anchors Camerota and Chris Cuomo, following her win last week at the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee.

At the end of the interview, Ananya asked for the meaning of “covfefe” and also its origin as it gained immense popularity for which the anchors responded gibberish. She was asked to spell the word and ended up saying ‘cofefe’

Camerota then told Vinay the correct spelling was ‘covfefe’.

She added, “It’s a nonsense word. So, we’re not sure that its root is actually in Sanskrit, which is what you’re probably, uh, used to using, so, I don’t know. Anyway.”

Cuomo congratulated Vinay and said, “You know what I love about this. Not only did you make yourself proud and your family, but do you know that there are kids all over the country, probably the world, who are going to look at you and say, “I want to put in that work. I want to be a champion. I want to spell like her.”

Twitter erupted on this unruly behaviour by the CNN Anchor Camerota with tweets like  “CNN guesses the US national spelling bee winner is ‘used to using’ Sanskrit. If she were Jewish would u say ‘your real language is Hebrew’.”

“12-year-old Ananya Vinay won the National Spelling Bee so naturally CNN had her on to spell ‘covfefe’ and say some racist stuff to her.”
