Indian Women’s Cricket Team marches to Semis in World Cup 2017

India has defeated Newzealand by a huge margin of 186 runs which saw them qualifying to semis comfortably. They will now face the mighty Australians to book their berth for Finals.

For both the teams prior to the start of the match, the victory was imminent because only that would ensure their passage to semis. India batted first and was in a great shock as they lost their openers cheaply. Smriti Mandanna was dismissed for 13 and Punam Raut for 4 and India was struggling at 21/2 at the end of 8 overs.

Just then Indian Skipper Mithali Raj walked in and was joined by Harmanpreet Kaur. This partnership added 132 runs for the third wicket partnership when Kaur got out having scored 60 off 90 deliveries. Mithali was then joined by Veda Krishnamurthy who through her blistering knock had scored a quick fire 70 off just 45 deliveries accelerating the run rate and also the score card by adding 108 runs for the fifth wicket.

Mithali who created so many records like consecutive 50’s, first to cross 6,000 runs in the planet has scored a Century in this match. She was the top scorer with 109 off 123 deliveries and in the due course became the first Indian Woman to score 1000 runs in a world cup.

India has ended up scoring 265/7. Facing the mammoth total, Team Newzealand who batted next fell like pack of cards.

Rajeshwari Gayakwad bundled out the team by claiming 5 wickets for just 15 runs who was assisted by assisted by off-spinner Deepti Sharma who claimed 2 wickets for 26. Only three NewZealand players scored double digits.

India will be facing the mighty Australians in the Semis now.
