In the wake of recent criticism of government’s decision to deport Rohingya migrants, the government conducted a review meeting to discuss the available options. Various top officials met at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to discuss the possibilities in view of the criticism from global community. The meeting was called by Nripendra Misra, who is among the top aids of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the heads of intelligence agencies including the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). As per the discussions, it was clear that Rohingya migrants are an emerging security threat to India.
The intelligence reports presented during the meeting indicate links between Rohingya militant commanders in Myanmar and terror groups in Pakistan including Hafiz Saeed’s Lashkar-e-Taiba. One of the intelligence reports concludes that Pakistan-based terror organizations are most likely to target the Rohingya migrant community to induct them as militants. Such people would eventually be used for terror attacks against India, the report says. Intelligence reports also revealed that Pakistan-based terrorist organizations are providing funds and arms to Rohingya militants. There is also proof that Al Qaeda operatives are giving training to Rohingya militants.
Based on these reports, it is clear that Rohingyas are an emerging security threat for India. It also validates India’s decision to deport Rohingya migrants. Anyone opposing the deportation of Rohingyas should give them shelter in their home or their country.
