The release of Tourism Research Australia’s International Visitor Survey (IVS) Results contains positive news for WA’s hotel, hospitality and tourism industry, with strong growth of international holiday makers visiting the state over the past year.
Australian Hotels Association (WA) CEO Bradley Woods said the overall international growth of 2.1 per cent was good news, but it was eclipsed by the exceptional growth of holiday visitors, with a 12.6 per cent rise over the past 12 months.
“These are very strong numbers for WA with a record number of visitors coming to the state for a holiday,” Mr Woods said.
“There are not only a record number of holiday visitors, but they are staying longer and spending more money when they are here – this is fantastic news for the state’s tourism industry.”
“The positive data can be attributed to the concerted focus on marketing WA as an appealing holiday destination and putting in place specific policies and campaigns to attract travellers to the state, demonstrating that targeted initiatives are effective and that the State Government’s efforts are yielding results.”
“Looking to the year ahead there are a number of reasons to remain upbeat about WA producing a sustained increase in visitation numbers.”
“Western Australia is hosting all three of Tourism Australia’s tourism trade events, a number of new direct flight paths into WA are set to commence and there is a shopping list of major sporting events taking place throughout 2019.”
“We welcome these figures, but there is still much work to be done – the good news is that WA is now ready to accommodate a significant increase in visitors, with a range of new and exciting high quality hotels, bars, restaurants and pubs across the state.”
