The Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) has become the first team reach to the final of IPL 2017 as they defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 20 runs in a thrilling encounter of IPL 2017 first Semifinal.
A clinical bowling performance and strict fielding were the key contributors to the victory of RPS and MI faltered in chasing down the target of 162 by 20 runs. Washington Sunder was the best bowler from RPS side as he picked up three wickets for sixteen runs in his four overs. The poor shot selection was also one of the reasons for the loss of MI as they will have to face the winning team from the second semifinal.
Earlier RPS had a very wobbly start of their innings as they lost the inform batsman Rahul Tripathi and Captain Steve Smith in the first two overs. Ajinkya Rahane and Manoj Tiwari constructed the RPS inning with a solid 80 runs partnership for the third wicket. In the end MS Dhoni showed power of his shots as he hit towering five sixes which helped RPS to post a strong total of 162 on a slow pitch.
Chasing down the target, MI lost wickets at regular interval and never seemed in the position to win the match. Wicketkeeper batsman Parthiv Patel showed strength as he scored 52 runs of 40 balls, no other batsman was able to show some resistance against the clinical bowling performance of RPS. This was the third straight loss of MI against RPS this season in IPL 2017.
