Tensions between Iran and the United States reached a new high today, as Iran test fired missiles and deployed radar systems in defiance of the sanctions imposed by United States. A spokesman from the White House said that the recent move by Iran will affect the security of United States’ allies in the Middle East. He said that the US government will do everything it can to stop Iran from accelerating the arms race in the region.
The US government has announced that it will introduce a new set of sanctions against Iran to ensure that peace is maintained in the region. It was also stated that the deal Iran had struck with the earlier US government was not in line with the interests of the United States and is likely to be annulled. The new sanctions being planned by the US government are likely to be very strong and impactful and would make Iran realize that the current US administration is not going to sit back and take it lightly. Commenting on the development, Trump tweeted that Iran is “playing with fire”.
Notwithstanding the threat of new sanctions, Iran remained defiant saying that it would use its missiles and other defense equipment if their country’s safety is jeopardized. “We are working day and night to protect Iran’s security. If we see the smallest misstep from the enemies, our roaring missiles will fall on their heads,” said the head of Revolutionary Guards’ aerospace unit, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh.
