Israel Aerospace Industries(IAI) has bagged USD 630 Million contract with the Indian Navy. Under this, Israel will supply air and defence missile systems for four ships with the Indian Navy.
The contract is covered under “Make In India” policy where the IAI will be working with Bharat Electronics in supplying these equipment. It is to be noted here that Israel’s Barak 8 long-range surface-to-air missile system was successfully tested last week aboard an Indian navy ship. Israel being one of the Top 3 arms supplier to India had last month struck a deal worth USD2 Billion with Indian Army and Navy to supply the defence missile systems. Israel’s equipment are regarded as one of the most technically upgraded ones.
India has been slowly moving away from Russia as its main arms and armaments supply partner with USA finding the major business followed by France and Israel. In other deal, it is either Dassault or Falcon F16 fighter planes will be finalised to be added to the ageing Sukhoi squadrons as the need is more with the total strength falling down by close to 30% making India in the air defence.
