If you have love for diamonds or if you want to become the richest person in the solar system, you should start your journey to Uranus and Neptune. The reason is that it rains real solid diamonds on these two planets. Based on available data, scientists said that there are storms in Uranus and Neptune that result in rain of solid diamonds. As per research, the diamonds form on the two planets, which are rich in hydrocarbons. The extreme pressure on these planets is said to split the hydrogen atoms from the carbon atoms. Subsequently, the carbon atoms crystallize to form diamonds. After the diamonds come down in the form of rain, they fall into the oceans of the two planets and eventually settle down on the solid core.
The theory of diamond rain on Uranus and Neptune had existed for quite some time, but it was never tested in a laboratory until this time. The latest research has put the theory to test in a laboratory and findings reveal that diamond rain is possible on Neptune and Uranus. The research has been published in the journal Nature Astrophysics and it created diamond rain using some plastics and high-powered lasers. Speaking about the research, lead author Dominik Kraus, a physicist at the Helmholtz Dresden-Rossendorf research center in Germany said, “Previously, researchers could only assume that the diamonds had formed. When I saw the results of this latest experiment, it was one of the best moments of my scientific career.”
