Its all American Semi-Finals for women in U.S. Open

The semifinals of U.S.Open for women is literally special this year since it is after 36 years that the tournament is witnessing all the four semi finalists hailing from USA which means the US is assured of both the Championship and the Runner-Up. While the most dominant player Serena Williams is out of the tournament since she gave birth to a baby girl, her sister Venus Williams is already in the semis. Williams who has defeated Petra Kvitova in the Quarters will play against Sloane Stephens in the Semis.

Williams is already the oldest at 37 years to compete in the U.S. Open.

On the other match, Madison Keys has defeated Kaia Kanepi of Estonia and is set to play against Coco Vandeweghe who got better off World No.1 Karolina Pliskova in the quarter finals. “We’re gonna have four American women playing tomorrow, and that’s pretty awesome,” No. 15 seed Madison Keys said after winning her quarterfinal match. “We all were rooting for each other today.”

The last time all four U.S. Open semifinalists were American was in 1981, when the players were Tracy Austin, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and Barbara Potter. However it isn’t the last since it was an all American affair. In Wimbledon back in 1985, the semis saw the clashing of all Americans which included the legendary Chris Evert, Martina Navaratilova, Zina Garrison and Kathy Rinaldi.

This years Semis and Finals will be a full house since the Americans would be eager to know as to who would be lifting the trophy claiming the Championships.
