We covered the quarter results where we predicted that there may be a all Indian Finals and if it did happen, it would be first time since they both have met in the finals. The dream has come true. It is Parupally Kashyap who would be playing HS Prannoy in the US Open Grand Prix Gold. The finals which is set to happen today will decide the champion.
While Prannoy had it easy over Vietnam’s Tien Minh Nguyen in the first semi-final with a score of 21-14 21-19, it was a tough one for Kashyap. He had to sweat it out to defeat Korean Kwang Hee Heo in the second semi-final, which lasted for 66 minutes when the scores read as 15-21 21-15 21-16.
This is the third instance of all Indian finals. The first one was when Sameer Verma played Sai Praneeth in the final of the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold. In April this year,Sai Praneeth and Kidambi Srikanth followed it up by becoming the first Indian pair to feature in a Superseries final at Singapore Open.
However no Indian so far has won the US OPEN GPG and hence who ever is going to in today’s finals will create history. The winner will become the sixth Indian to win an International title this season. The other five winners were: Verma (Syed Modi GPG), PV Sindhu (Syed Modi GPG, India Open), Saina Nehwal (Malaysia Masters), Sai Praneeth (Thailand, Singapore Open) and Kidambi Srikanth (Indonesia, Australia Open).
