The Centre has asked Jammu and Kashmir to stop airing the unauthorised channels belonging to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia with immediate effect. Venkaiah Naidu who is the Information and Broadcasting Minister spoke with the Chief Secretary of the State and is believed to have asked for the Compliance report.
Just before this, Rajvardhan Singh Rathore has warned that the Centre will confiscate the equipments that were being used to air the unauthorised channels which is believed to be instigating violence among the public.
“We also monitor whenever such news comes up. It is our work to ask for report about such incidents. The action is being taken,” he said. Adding to it, he also mentioned “In Kashmir, the district collector or the authorised government official can confiscate the equipment and take action against cable operators.”
It is believed that there are over 50 channels from Saudi and Pakistan including Zakir Naik’s banned Peace TV which is running “anti India” propaganda and has not prior permission from the I&B Ministry which has mentioned that it is the duty of the local administration to monitor the channels though it sends notification from time to time asking them to stop the unauthorised channels.
