The Union Government has chalked out a massive employment program that will provide jobs to one crore youth by 2020. The employment opportunities will be created through a skill development program, as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday in Secunderabad during the inauguration of a two-day ‘Job Mela’ organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Speaking about the program, Dattatreya said, “The Union Government will be establishing skill development centers across the country with an amount of Rs 12,000 crore to create employment opportunities to 1 crore youth by 2020.” “To increase employment avenues for job seekers, The Ministry of Labour and Employment is establishing Model Career Centres (MCC) across the country. There are 950 employment exchanges in the country, out of these 100 centers will be developed as model centers at the cost of Rs 350 crore,” he added.
The government has also planned to set up 100 driver training institutes across the country. For Telangana State, Rs 170 crore has already been sanctioned for skill development by the Union Government. The MCCs will provide a wide variety of services to students such as counseling and assessment, soft skills training, technical upskilling and placement.
