Indian doubles pair of Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal Karthik had won a bronze medal in the WSF World Doubles squash which is happening in Manchester after they lost to the English duo of Jenny Duncalf and Alison Waters in the semifinals. They did not go down easily as they put a great fighting effort before they lost after dragging the game to the 3rd and final set. At one point in time, they seemed like having an advantage but lost it disappointing the fans.
The final scores read as 11-6, 6-11, 8-11.
After winning the first game, the Indian pair looked good in the second set but after the interval, the English duo played very well both with defending and scoring the points where ever possible. The Indian pair made some errors mostly with that of wrong positions which became an advantage to the opponents.
The Indians, though matched in the rallies, failed to make progress and went down fighting which must be applauded since this is a big tournament and they did not lose it cheaply.
In the quarter finals, Joshna and Dipika made a come back from a game down in the first set to defeat the lower seeded Canadians Samantha Cornett and Nikole Todd with a score of 10-11, 11-6, 11-8 which some how resembled the semi finals scores.
In mixed doubles, Indian pairs of Saurav Ghosal and Dipika and Vikram Malhotra and Joshna Chinappa crashed out one after the other in the two quarterfinals held concurrently on side by side courts dashing the hopes for any further medals in this pressigious tournament.
