Kannada film industry protests against 28% GST rate , threatens to stall production

The Kannada industry has joined the film industry’s protest against the proposed GST of 28%.

It has decided to stall film making process and has sought a lower tax stab for the entertainment industry.

The Kannada film industry has demanded that they be put in the lowest tax bracket of 5 percent.

According to GST council movie tickets in cinema halls will be taxed at 28%.

A fight needs to put up or Kannada film industry will not survive said SaRaGovindu , President of Karnataka film Chamber of Commerce.

All movie tickets Rs.100 and below will attract 18% tax and Rs.100 and above will attract 28% GST.

The Tamil film industry believes that new GST rates are too little a relief.

The state government can refund their part of GST through transfer scheme but still there are areas involved in film making which will be heavily impacted by GST.
