Sensing trouble during the death anniversary of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani, the Jammu and Kashmir police have ordered to take down all social media sites in the Kashmir valley. It may be recalled that Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani was killed by security forces last year on July 8. Wani had a huge number of followers and his death had sparked widespread violence in the Kashmir valley. At his first death anniversary on July 8, the police fear that there may again be violence, due to which, a clampdown has been ordered on all social media sites. Such sites are often used by troublemakers to spread rumors and to get people to gather on streets for protests.
A police order issued to all Internet Service Providers in Kashmir valley read, “In view of the apprehension of misuse of Internet services by anti-national elements, which is likely to cause deterioration in law and order situation, you are directed to block all social media sites on lease line in Kashmir Valley from July 6 at 2200 hours till further order.” Security has also been increased for Amarnath Yatra since there are intelligence inputs that terrorists may target Hindu pilgrims on the death anniversary of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani.
