Indian shuttlers Prupalli Kashyap and H S Prannoy has reached the semi finals of US Open Grand Prix Gold. Kashyap has reached his first semi finals in the last 7 months by getting better of Sameer Verma 21-13, 21-16 in 40 minutes in the quarters and would be clashing with Korea’s Kwang Hee Heo. His last semi finals appearance was in Korea Open in December 2016. Kashyap has defeated top seed player in the earlier round pulling up a surprise victory over the opponent.
Prannoy who has been a semifinalist in the Indonesian Open last month bettered Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama with a score of 10-21, 21-15, 21-18. It is a great comeback for Prannoy after losing the first set and ceding early advantage to the opponent in the second set as well.
Prannoy will now face Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam who is seeded 15th in the semis. Last time when they met in 2012, the Vietnamese had won by then. It was their only meeting so far.
If both Prannoy and Kashyap wins their respective matches, it will be an All Indian finals which has not happened before and would assure both Gold and Silver for the Indian team.
Third seeds Manu and Sumeeth defeated Japan’s Hiroki Okamura and Masayuki Onodera 21-18 22-20 in men’s doubles. They will now be facing top seeds Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han of Chinese Taipei.
