Let me start off by saying that I love golf. It’s my favorite sport and I would play it every day if I could but, unfortunately, there’s not always time to fit it in my schedule. As a long-time fan, I’ve gotten used to relying on the internet to get daily news updates on tournaments – specifically the PGA – and stats on my favorite players, but I just knew there had to be a more efficient way to get that information without doing a freehand search every single time.
Then, recently, it occurred to me to try looking for mobile apps that I use to keep up with matches, scores, and player standings. At first, it was honestly quite frustrating; it felt like I had to wade through tons of golf phone games just to find one or two apps I could use to keep up with my favorite sport. I was about to give up when I came across a top 10 list for the best PGA apps on an app website.
It had a full list of apps designed just for golf fans who want to stay in-the-know about the sport. Not only have these apps made it easier to find out about tournament results and players, but I’m also able to get tools and advice that I can use to better my own game. There were so many good options that I’ve decided to compile my favorite of the apps into two categories below so you can find exactly what you need even faster.
- PGA Tour golf
Access a one-stop-shop for all things professional golf and PGA, including player scorecards that you can access anytime. Stay up-to-date on your favorite tournament while also providing tips and tricks to make you a better, more professional golfer, regardless of skill level.
Apps: PGA Tour, PGA Championship 2018
With PGA Tour, you can catch up on all the best moments of the tour with highlights and recaps of matches as well as the schedule for the entire tournament, making it really easy to schedule in a time to watch it live. Plus, there are alerts you can enable in order to get notifications about tour updates and player stats so you stay constantly aware of how they’re doing. Just keep in mind that because there’s a lot of information available on the app, it may take a bit of time to load when you first open it.
PGA Championship 2018 is really convenient because it allows you to customize your alerts so you get only the information you really want. You’re also able to view exclusive content like videos and photos that aren’t available anywhere else online. And, you can access daily tournament coverage from award-winning writers that is great for keeping your head in the game. I will note that, in the past, PGA Championship 2018 had issues with saving and customizing alerts; however, it does seem as though this has been fixed because I haven’t experienced it recently.
- Tee Time Selection
With just a few taps, you can find and book tee times at thousands of golf courses worldwide, no phone calls needed! Or, earn up to 80% in savings when booking tee times, so you can play golf without spending all your money.
Apps: Golfshot, GolfNow
You can get up to 80% off your tee time bookings with Golfshot – and this applies to golf courses around the world. You have the ability to invite your friends to play with you as well as keep a scorecard that will keep track of your statistics. Best of all, there’s no need to check the PGA tour schedule and PGA leaderboard on your computer because you can get everything you need right from the app. The only downside is that wearables like Tic Watch are not currently supported.
GolfNow is also great because you can easily find and book tee times for more than 6,000 golf courses both nationwide (U.S.) and worldwide. There’s also a feature that lets you use the GPS to search for golf courses near you. Or, you can use the app’s search functions to find tee times nearby that fit your schedule. What’s really great is that you earn points with every game you play that you can then exchange for a free game of golf. Just know that, in order to get that free game, you do need to book it at least three days in advance.
Finding these apps really changed the game in terms of how quickly I can find out about golf news. Literally, everything is only a button-click away. My days of endlessly searching the web for golf stats and crossing my fingers that I would come across the information I was looking for are over and I’m so happy about it.
Seriously, if you’re an avid golfer or someone who loves the sport, I don’t think you should go another minute without at least looking into these apps. It will save you a lot of time, energy, and frustration in the long run.
