The mystery over the kidnapping of two Chinese nationals from Balochistan seems to have been resolved, albeit in a sad development, as the ISIS (Islamic State) has claimed that it has executed both Chinese nationals. It may be recalled that the two Chinese nationals were kidnapped by armed people last month from Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. The two Chinese nationals were working as language teachers and they were kidnapped from Jinnah town, which is an affluent residential neighborhood in Quetta. The announcement about the execution of the two Chinese nationals was made via ISIS’s propaganda news agency Amaq. The message was posted in Arabic and it stated that the two abducted Chinese nationals have been executed.
China acknowledged the killing of its two citizens and said that the matter does not seem connected to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. However, China also said that the risk of incidents is always there, as the country is taking its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) global. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that China worked closely with Pakistan to rescue the two abducted, but unfortunately they have been killed.
