The Hyperdub mogul is in India as part of the Red Bull Music Academy tour
Delhi, 11th February, 2015: Hyperdub visionary Kode9 came, played and conquered! The London based lecturer, author, producer, DJ and Hyperdub label kingpin – Steve Goodman, better known as Kode9 has been moulding the sounds of underground for years now.
Yesterday, he hosted a Red Bull Music Academy session at the uber-cool Anti-Social in Delhi where Nick Dwyer was seen moderating the proceedings.
A number of independent artists, producers and members of the industry were brought together under one roof. The Indian indie scene was well represented by the likes of Sahej Bakshi, Tritha and Nucleya.
Steve Goodman aka Kode9 took the audience through his history, his experiences and about his record label – Hyperdub.
From working in a website company to starting his own music website, to becoming a world renowned producer and an electronic music magneto, Kode9’s journey is truly inspiring for budding indie artists. This former university teacher who holds a Phd in Philosophy spoke about the importance of rehearsing. In an informal chat, Kode9 spoke about his book, the evolution of dubstep and dance music, and also played some music for the crowd, impromptu.
Talking about himself as Steve and his alter ego, he said, “Steve and Kode9 are two different personalities. Making music was always an escape for me from my serious (professor) life.”
Later in the evening, Red Bull Music Academy Club night at Summer House Café was a packed house with opening act by the city’s psychedelic rock band Lifafa followed by Nick Dwyer’s energetic dance and electronic sounds.
Kode9 performed a high-energy DJ set and spun some of their most popular numbers like “Kan“ and “Uh” and drove away the mid-week blues of the Delhites.
Kode9 will now travel to Mumbai on 13th February 2015 for another Red Bull Music Academy session and club night.
