Atleast 22 people were injured last night after an explosive device went off inside a truck on Monday night in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province. The blast took place at Bund road area. What was the motive behind this blast and the kind of device being used i not yet ascertained.
However this is the route which the estranged Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was about to travel from Islamabad which has prompted the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said Sharif’s route in the city would be revised now.
DIG Haider Ashraf confirmed the bomb blast and said that an investigation has been launched. He also said that the blast would investigated in all the angles, adding further that the device was planted inside a fruit truck. The explosion has led to the development of a huge crater in the blast site.
According to the police, even though no casualties are reported, a minor girl is said to be in a critical condition.
“Due the impact of the blast, I fell on the ground. After a couple of minutes when I gained my senses, I saw some people injured,” Hanif, an eyewitness said. The blast has also resulted in shattering of windows in the nearby buildings which has also led to the damage in 2 and 4 wheeler that were parked near its vicinity.
Police and rescue officials have cordoned off the area. A rescue official told PTI that an explosive device hidden inside the truck went off at around 9 pm local time.
