Lalu Prasad Yadav has something to rejoice about today as the Bihar state government has accepted his request for Rs. 10,000 pension under ‘JP Senani Sammam’ scheme. Senior political leader and Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad Yadav qualifies for the scheme as he served jail during JP movement for more than six months.
The JP Senani Samman scheme started in 2009 and it applies to the jailed people during JP movement. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Opposition Party BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi are among politicians who has served in jail during that time of Emergency.
Lalu Prasad Yadav served jail as a student leader during those times. He was booked under the draconian Maintenance of Internal Security Act or MISA. Lalu has named one of his daughters as “MISA”.
Bihar Home Ministry mentioned that Lalu has been eligible of this scheme from 2015 and he will be awarded with Rs. 10,000. As per the scheme, if one has served upto 6 months, a sum of Rs. 5,000 and if served for than 6 months then Rs. 10,000 will be the pension sum.
As of now this JP Senani Sammam covers around 3,100 prisoners. As per officials, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi also qualifies for this scheme but he is not availing the benefits as of now.
