In a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS), a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant named Saleem Khan has been arrested today from Mumbai airport. Khan is said to be a native of Hathgaon village in Fatehpur, UP. Police officials said that he was declared a ‘Wanted’ criminal in 2008 and a lookout notice was issued in his name. Khan has been on the run ever since and had managed to hoodwink security agencies. Khan’s arrest has been confirmed by Anand Kumar, UP ADG (Law and Order). Kumar said that Khan was deported from UAE, as his visa had expired. Khan is currently being interrogated in Mumbai.
Investigations have revealed that Khan had visited terror camps in Pakistan and received arms training at Muzaffarabad. It is alleged that he has been involved in anti-national activities for the last 10 years and may be even more than that. Salim’s role in terror activities was revealed by an ISI operative Aftab Ali. When Ali was arrested from Faizabad for spying on military installations, he had revealed during his interrogation that it was Salim who used to wire money to him. Khan is said to be part of a hawala network that transfers money to terror operative in India.
