It was a life-changing moment for 20-year old Shradha Mengshete from Latur district in Maharashtra when she won Rs 1 crore for transacting online under the Lucky Grahak Yojana launched by the government to promote digital transactions. It was a routine transaction for Shradha when she made a payment of Rs 1,590 using her RuPay card. The payment was for the EMI of her new mobile phone and little did she know that the payment will change her life forever. Luck smiled on her and she was selected for the top prize of Rs 1 crore.
The second prize of Rs 50 lakh was given to 29-year old Hardik Kumar, who works as a primary school teacher in Cambay, Gujarat. Kumar had used his RuPay card to make a transaction of Rs 1,100. Winners were also announced under the Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana which is meant for merchants accepting digital payments. All the winners were facilitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a special function organized in Nagpur today. Overall, 16 lakh winners have been announced under the two schemes and total prize money won was Rs 258 crore.
