In what could be the good news for car enthusiasts in India is the luxury car makers Mercedes and BMW has announced massive cuts on the rates of their cars in the wake of GST which will be rolled out from July 1st. This was done to ensure that their customers do not withhold the purchases until GST is rolled out as it is expected to bring down the rates especially for the “Make In India” vehicles.
Mercedes was the first to announce the rate cuts followed immediately by the BMW. Th German majors are at war to capture the top slot in the lucrative Indian market which was dominated by Mercedes until recently till it lost its foothold to Audi. Mercedes bounced back last year to capture the No.1 slot.
The rate cuts announced by Mercedes is applicable on entire range which starts from minimum of Rs.1.25 lakhs to a maximum of Rs.7 lakhs. The price revision on a weighted average of 4 per cent will be effective immediately, and is aimed at providing value to a customer’s purchase decision before GST implementation.
The models from Mercedes stable includes CLA, GLA, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, GLE, GLS and Mercedes-Maybach S 500 which is priced between Rs.32 lakhs to Rs.1.82 crores.
BMW immediately announced the price cuts following the statement from Mercedes. Though it did not announce the actual rate cuts, it is believed their cuts would go upto a maximum of Rs.10 lakhs.
Audi has also announced the rates cut and their cars Audi A3 at Rs 30.50 lakh, A4 at Rs 38.10 lakh, A6 at Rs 48.10 lakh, Q3 at Rs 32.20 lakh and Q7 at Rs 72.90 lakh at ex-Delhi prices.
