Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) secretary Sanjay Choupane was killed when the car he was travelling in collided with a bus at Bondla Phata near Aurangabad on Sunday evening.
According to the police, the mishap took place when Choupane, along with three others, was heading towards Mumbai after attending a function in Aurangabad.
Former Thane city Congress Committee president Balkrishna Purnekar and another person named Ramakant Mhatre accompanying Choupane were seriously injured in the incident which occurred on Sunday evening.
Choupane and others were returning from Aurangabad after attending a meeting of senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The police said that the accident took place when the car driver lost control after he tried to save one of the motorcyclist, who came suddenly from the wrong side and subsequently the car rammed into the bus.
