Malayali author K P Ramanunni has received a threat letter asking him to convert to Islam within 6 months or face dire consequences. The author who is also a lecturer in a woman’s college has been expressing his views in Social media. While this was the case, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has said that his Government will not tolerate anyone getting threat due to expressing their progressive views and all necessary steps will be taken to give them protection.
“Those who feel that independent voices can be gagged by threats are living in a fool’s paradise,” the CM said on his Facebook page.
Ramanunni who received the letter at his Kozhikode residence 6 days ago said that his right arm and left leg would be chopped off if he did not convert to Islam within six months. The letter is seemed to have been posted from Manjeri in Malappuram district.“I am not aware of the motive behind the letter. I filed a complaint with the Kozhikode city police commissioner today, urging him to look into the matter,” he said.
While he wanted to eave the contents aside, he filed the police complaint after he was asked to do so b his fellow writers not to take something like this lightly.
“Like T J Joseph, your right arm will be cut off… your left leg too. You are given six months to convert to Islam. If you do not embrace Islam, we will inflict Allah’s punishment on you,” the letter said. It is to be recalled here that Joseph who had set a question paper seemed to have insulted the religious sentiments of muslims and faced the fate of losing his arm and leg.
