Mercurial West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has always been at war with the center and its policies. It may be because she believes in the idea that it’s better to rule in hell than to serve in heaven. Or it may be that she cannot think beyond the borders of her state. It is also possible that her appeal is limited to the people of West Bengal, as was the case earlier in the country, where different kingdoms ruled their respective areas and the idea of a nation was nonexistent and even deplored. The actions of people like Mamata Banerjee clearly indicate that they are influenced by regressive thinking and may be willing to push the country backwards, just because it suits their individual dreams and ambitions.
In the most recent warfare launched by Mamata Banerjee, she has announced that she will not be linking her mobile phone with her Aadhaar card, as has been mandated by the government and needs to be done by February 2018. Mamata said that she will not be linking her phone with Aadhaar even if her connection is cut. Such announcements also show the mentality that some political leaders believe that they are above the law and can function as per their own whims and fancies. Mamata said that linking of Aadhaar and mobile number is interfering with people’s rights and privacy. Mamata also warned her party leaders for involving themselves in anti-party activities. She said that she tracks everyone in the party.
