Kolkata, Oct 2 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday thanked the devotees, Durga Puja organisers and police for making the festival joyous, peaceful and disciplined.
She also thanked the clubs and committees in the state for their “total cooperation and overwhelming support” in making the festival a grand success.
“At the end of Durga Puja, the biggest festival in the world, I would like to thank the crores of people who visited the puja mandaps and participated in the festivities and made the festival celebration so joyful,” Banerjee wrote on her Facebook page.
“I thank the police and civil administration for their tireless endeavour to make the puja celebration smooth, peaceful and disciplined,” she said.
Stating that some of the prominent puja organisers would be participating in the Durga Puja carnival at Kolkata’s Red Road on October 3, she welcomed everyone to be part of the “beautiful event”.
The Durga Puja carnival was first organised in Kolkata in 2016 where 30 noted pujas from the city and districts participated in a colourful roadshow along with their respective Durga idols and replicas of the pandals.
According to police, the carnival this year would be bigger as nearly 68 puja organisers would be participating. The spectator-capacity has also been doubled from 10,000 to 20,000 this year.
