Coalitions are often chaotic and one can never tell where the storm might be brewing. In one such example, the month-old BJP led coalition government in Manipur is facing its first major challenge after Health Minister L Jayantakumar Singh resigned from his position. While talking to the media, the minister said that he has resigned due to government interference in the state’s health ministry. According to sources, the minister had written a letter to Chief Minister N Biren Singh, in which he had mentioned that he was not consulted in the suspension of Manipur health director. He said that the suspension undermined his authority as a minister.
It may be recalled that BJP had won 22 seats in 60-seat Manipur assembly elections conducted in March. BJP acted quickly and created an alliance to form the government in Manipur. One of the coalition partners was the NPP faction. Jayantakumar Singh is a member of the NPP faction. After his resignation, political pundits said that they may be more than meets the eye.
