The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today targeted former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the Vijay Mallya loan scam. The party said that Manmohan Singh helped Mallya in getting loans from Indian banks which were used to bailout the infamous debt ridden Kingfisher Airlines.
BJP claimed that the bailout package could not have been processed without the insistence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It also targeted that the income tax department was not tough to Mallya due to the directions of Mr. Singh. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that due to the involvement of Singh, Vijay Mallya’s accounts were also not frozen.
Sambit Patra was discussing the Vijay Mallya loan scam in a press conference today. When asked about the reasoning behind issuing such large amount of loans even after the poor ratings, he said there might be someone who was pulling the strings from behind in this case.
He asked that Congress who was a sinking ship at that time was helping the Kingfisher Airlines. He claimed that he will expose Congress and the former PM using certain secret information in form of mails, letters and other correspondence
He also discussed the timeline of loans. He argued that first loan was given to Mallya in 2004 and the second one in 2008, all during UPA regime. After the firm declared so much of their asset as NPA, the loan restructuring was done in 2010.
