After meeting up with Sonia Gandhi few days back and extending her support for the Presidential candidate to be nominated by Congress and its allies, Banerjee met PM Modi yesterday. She said she had discussed “development and not politics” after the meeting.
The news comes as a shock to the parties as they meet has kept all the other parties guessing. The ruling National Democratic Alliance is yet to announce its presidential candidate. Banerjee said she discussed range of issues including soil erosion caused by the Ganga in West Bengal and also talked about restructuring the debt of West Bengal. She wanted the Central Government’s loan to the West Bengal to be restructured since it is already reeling under debts.
“This was not a political meeting, (but an) absolutely development oriented meeting. I have taken up several issues with the prime minister,” Banerjee said. She also iterated that it is just a customary meet.
Banerjee also said that she discussed about Farakka barrage, Contruction of dam over Atrai River by Bangladesh and also its imposition of heavy export duty by Bangladesh on mangoes from West Bengal.
“I have to pay Rs 40,000 crore. How do we work in such a scenario,” she said outside South Block,after the meeting.
