In what is being seen as an attempt by militants to send a message ahead of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s meeting in Anantnag, the militants attacked a police patrol at a bus stand in Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. One policeman was killed in the militant attack and two other policemen were injured. The attack is being seen as a major security breach since the location of the attack was just 500 yards from the scheduled meeting venue of home minister Rajnath Singh. It may be recalled that Rajnath will be holding a meeting at the venue tomorrow. A militant attack just a day before and close to the venue has led to alarm bells ringing in the entire security system in Jammu and Kashmir.
Rajnath is on a 4-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and today he met Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar. Rajnath is expected to review the security situation in the Kashmir Valley and also meet various delegations during his trip. He will also be meeting with Governor NN Vohra. Meanwhile, in another incident, Pakistan again violated ceasefire by firing along the border using heavy weapons and mortars. The areas affected include Debraj, Krishna Ghati and Ishapur in Mendhar sector. The ceasefire violation is also being seen as a message to Rajnath Singh.
