A police constable B. Chandrasekhar Reddy, 44, working as security guard of Andhra Pradesh marketing minister Adinarayana Reddy died when his gun allegedly misfired at his residence on Thursday.
While he was cleaning his pistol, a bullet pierced his chest and he collapsed.
He was rushed to the Gandhi institute of medical sciences hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Senior police reached the spot and shifted his body to the Kadapa government hospital for post-mortem.
Initially, reports were doing the rounds that Chandrasekhar might have committed suicide.
There were also rumours that the victim’s son was taking a selfie with the pistol when it misfired.
Chandrashekhar Reddy had been working as Mr. Adinarayana Reddy’s gunman for past three years.
He returned to kadapa on Thursday after dropping the minister at Bengaluru said police.
He is survived by wife and two sons.
Kadapa SP Attada Babujee visited RIMS hospital and paid homage to the constable.
He assured that the department would help the family and stand by it.
A case was registered and inquiry was in progress he added.
