In a heavily packed auditorium DMK leaders announced MK Stalin, party treasurer, being elevated as working president and party supremo M Karunanidhi to remain the party chief on Wednesday.
The development was announced after general body meeting of the party chaired by senior leader K Anbazhagan.
93-year-old Karunanidhi was unable to attend the meeting but had sent a message which was read during the meeting minutes. The party supremo could not attend the meeting as given strict directions by the doctor to be rest after being hospitalised recently.
The party announced that Stalin would be in complete charge and will also remain the treasurer of the party.
According to sources in the party Stalin’s name was was proposed by Stalinand and seconded S Duraimurugan.
Stalin after accepting the new role in the DMK said accepting the position of working president in absence of father has decreased his satisfaction.
“Position is not about just getting a post but it is responsibility towards your position. I will give my best to remain upto the expectations,” said the newly appointed DMK working president.
