In a suspected case of arson, more than 200 vehicles were gutted in a massive fire that broke out near the railway station in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. The fire occurred at an illegal parking space near Raipur railway station. Police said that no one was hurt in the incident. According to SHO Government Railway Police (GRP) Raipur Rajkumar Borjha, the fire was noticed at around 12 noon when it had spread to the vehicles kept in the corner of the parking lot.
The GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel quickly informed fire and emergency services and they themselves started removing the parked vehicles to ensure that the fire does not spread further. When the fire brigade team came, it took them nearly two hours to control the situation. However, by the time the fire was put out, more than 200 vehicles were gutted beyond repair. If GRP and RPF personnel had not acted fast, the fire could have been even more deadly, as there were around 1000 vehicles in the parking lot.
