Former MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden has been hospitalised on Thursday after colliding with a car. The incident occurred in eastern Italy after his cycle collided with a car. He is admitted in ICU and has spent the second day already in it. The news was announced by the American’s Honda World Superbike team.
Another channel said hat he has been placed under the medically induced coma. Italian Media said that Hayden had suffered a cerebral edema and lower body fractures and surgery had not been possible immediately.
“Following the incident, Nicky was treated on site by medical staff and then taken by ambulance to a hospital near Rimini for immediate treatment,” Red Bull Honda said which said further “Once Nicky’s condition was stabilised, he was transferred to Maurizio Bufalini Hospital in Cesena and remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit.”
The 35-year-old’s fiancee and team members were at his bedside of the former MotoGP Champin who had won the Championship in 2006.
Italian great Valentino Rossi, hailed his former team mate as “one of the best friends I have had in the paddock”. He further said “Come on Nicky, we’re all with you.”
Hayden was last seen in the MotoGP championship in Spain in September 2016. He raced for Australian Jack Miller who was injured.
