Fan explores the complex relationship between a superstar and their fans, especially the extreme ones wherein fans are seen with psychotic love for their idol. Gaurav (Shah Rukh) from Delhi is one such fan who greatly admires superstar Aryan Khanna (Shah Rukh) and wants to meet him, even if it’s just for five minutes. Gaurav runs a cyber cafe and his craze for Aryan is clearly evident, as the entire walls of the cafe are adorned with posters of the superstar. Gaurav does not appear to possess any special skills, except that he is simply awesome when it comes to impersonating and mimicking superstar Aryan.

The story takes a turn when Gaurav wins a local competition where he showcases his skills at impersonating the superstar’s various roles including action and love sequences. He has great expectations when he goes to Mumbai to show the trophy to Aryan, but his dreams to meet the superstar are shattered since Aryan does not seem even a bit interested in Gaurav. Devastated by the indifference shown by Aryan, Gaurav vows that one day Aryan will run after him, just as he had chased the superstar till that time. The story is a thrilling roller coaster ride thereon, as Gaurav tries to sabotage Aryan’s life and his career.

Fan is a triumph for Shah Rukh Khan, as he successfully plays the double role, one of a high-profile superstar and another of a seemingly naive fan, who does not know much about the world except his admiration and love for superstar Aryan. The movie brings back memories of the 1990s movie Darr, in which Shah Rukh stammers, and stalks the girl he loves with furious tenacity. Fan once again proves that Shah Rukh Khan is at his best when it comes to playing characters that have darker shades. Director Maneesh Sharma has also done a good job at keeping the story sharp and moving at a fast pace.

Go for Fan for its fresh storyline, thrilling scenes and plots, and of course, Shah Rukh’s ever evolving acting skills that have made him the Baadshah of Bollywood.
