Movie Review: Jolly LLB 2

Release Date: February 10, 2017
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Huma Qureshi, Anu Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla
Director: Subhash Kapoor
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Duration: 2 hours 20 minutes

Jolly LLB 2 seeks to highlight the plight of the legal system in the country, wherein there are only around 21,000 judges for a population of nearly 125 crore people. What is even appalling is that a staggering 3.5 crore cases are pending in the various courts in the country. However, Jolly LLB 2 also offers hope by sending the message that justice can still be delivered despite the huge challenges; all it needs is a determined individual who can take on the corrupt and powerful people.

The movie is the story of Jagdishwar Mishra aka Jolly (Akshay), an individual who knows the loopholes in the legal system. At home, Jolly lives a happily married life with his wife Pushpa Pandey (Huma) and a chubby son. It’s a normal family that loves to buy the top brands and the best of everything else in life. Jolly’s life changes when he tries to cheat a pregnant widow, Hina Siddique (Sayani Gupta), who is desperately trying to get justice for the murder of her husband. When Hina comes to know that Jolly is a fraud, she commits suicide. The incident leaves Jolly with a great amount of guilt, which in turn motivates him to get justice for Hina.

The murder of Hina’s husband turns out to be a case of mistaken identity involving a J&K terrorist. Jolly studies the case and starts his mission to get justice for Hina. However, he soon realizes that he is up against some very powerful people, who do not want the mystery to be solved. What starts as a simple case of murder soon transforms into a wild goose chase, wherein Jolly can be seen dodging bullets as he conducts investigations in various cities in India, including, Kanpur, Lucknow and J&K.

The movie is fast-paced in the first half, but it slows down a bit in the second half. Jolly’s character gets adequate support from his adversary, the leading lawyer Pramod Mathur (Annu Kapoor). Equally good are the dialogues involving the two lawyers and Judge Tripathy (Saurabh Shukla). Akshay has delivered an excellent performance and ably supported by Huma. The good humor created by these acclaimed actors and the movie’s mystery aspect are the things that make Jolly LLB 2 worth watching.
